A uniquely comprehensive curriculum
At more than thirty years in existence, Africana Studies
is Vassar's longest-running multidisciplinary program. It
provides students with a comparative perspective in their approach
to the study of the histories, politics, cultures and experiences
of peoples of African origin. The wide-reaching disciplines of
its faculty enable the program to offer a uniquely comprehensive
curriculum, covering the fields of art, education, film, geology,
history, literature, political science, psychology, religion and
sociology, as well as cross-cultural and areas studies.
Opportunities
for study at other institutions and abroad
In addition
to its offerings on the Vassar campus, and a major and a correlate
sequence, the program also has opportunities for study at American
historically black institutions and for foreign study through
the college's study abroad options.
Africana Studies has initiated its own program of study at the
Mohammed V. University in Rabat, Morocco,
one of the great cosmopolitan centers of the Mediterranean world.
